Week 8

Keys and Quotes for all Sunday games except Dallas at Philadelphia

Cincinnati at Seattle

Key: The Bengals finished with 136 yards on punt returns, including a 56-yard touchdown by Ben Tate for a score, and a 63-yard return by Adam Jones that set up a 14-yard Jerome Simpson touchdown catch.

Bengals said: "I thought we did an excellent job and controlled the field position by both kicking it off, but punting it, by returning punts, by returning kickoffs." - coach Marvin Lewis.

Seahawks said: "We have to get it together, because that's not us. That's not who we are. We've set the standards for special teams, and for some reason today we didn't make the plays and the ball didn't bounce are way." - defensive back Roy Lewis.

Cleveland at San Francisco

Key: The 49ers established an offensive rhythm early in the game and took a two-score lead. San Francisco's defense kept the Browns off balance, forcing five fumbles and sacking quarterback Colt McCoy four times. For the 28th straight game, the 49ers did not allow a rusher to exceed 100 yards.

49ers said: "We thought we had a play there. They were two big plays in the game." - coach Jim Harbaugh, on using left tackle Joe Staley and nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga as receivers to extend drives

Browns said: "We did some good things. We just got to start winning. We're going to be in every game, and we just got to continue to fight, continue to grow, continue to believe in each other, and it'll happen."—quarterback Colt McCoy

Washington at Buffalo

Key: The Bills' defense totally dominated the Redskins injury-depleted offense, harassing quarterback John Beck relentlessly for nine sacks, more than double their full season output to date (four).

Redskins said: "No, (injuries are) not an excuse you can use because it happens across the league and that's why you have as many people on the team as you do. Somebody has to step up. And it felt like we had a pretty good week of practice. It just didn't translate into the game today for whatever reason." - receiver Jabar Gaffney

Bills said: "That was amazing to get nine sacks against that team. (The Bills) really worked hard at it during the bye week. I don't think anybody expected that. I'll be honest with you, I didn't expect that." - coach Chan Gailey

Detroit at Denver

Key: The Lions broke ahead 24-3, sacked Tim Tebow seven times and capitalized on his two turnovers to score a pair of defensive touchdowns in the second half to lead 45-3 with nearly the entire fourth quarter to play. The Broncos' secondary was dominated by QB Matthew Stafford's many weapons.

Lions said: "The attitude and tempo—we hadn't really had that the last couple of weeks." - Stafford

Broncos said: "I haven't even had a shower yet, let alone look at the tape, but we'll look at it and make changes where we see they're needed. We've definitely got to get better." - coach John Fox

New England at Pittsburgh

Key: The Steelers controlled the ball, running 72 plays to the Patriots' 36 and holding a 39:23-20:37 advantage in time of possession. Ben Roethlisberger riddled New England with a series of short passes, completing 36 of 50 for 365 yards and two touchdowns.

Steelers said: "We kept (the Patriots) from ever getting into a rhythm offensively because they didn't have the ball much. When they did have the ball, our guys played lights-out on defense." - receiver Jerricho Cotchery

Patriots said: "We needed to do a better job of complementing (the Steelers') drives. If they have a long drive, our offense just can't go in there and do a three-and-out like we did. We've got to do a better job than that. We made a lot of errors." - quarterback Tom Brady

Jacksonville at Houston

Key: Houston running back Arian Foster rushed for 112 yards and one TD as the Texans defeated AFC South opponent Jacksonville 24-14 Sunday. Foster tied a team record with his 23rd career rushing touchdown and passed Domanick Williams in the record books with his 12th career game with 100-plus rushing yards.

Texans said: "He's really been playing off the chain. Wade (Phillips, defensive coordinator) and Reggie (Herring, linebackers coach) have him very active and he has a lot of freedom to do things inside. To me, Cushing's mental capacity as a football player has made a huge jump from last year." - coach Gary Kubiak on LB Brian Cushing

Jaguars said: "We stopped executing what we practiced all week. It's within us (to improve the offense). Guys have to get open. We have to execute." - receiver Jason Hill

New Orleans at St. Louis

KEY: The Rams sacked Drew Brees six times and pressured him throughout the game. The same rush defense that was shredded by the Dallas Cowboys running game in Week Seven surrendered just 56 to Saints. The Saints finished with less than 300 yards total offense for the first time this season (283) and were topped in time of possession (31:23 to 28:37) and first downs (21 to 19.)

Rams said: "We came out with the mindset (to win this game.) We always thought that (performance) was in us. We got it today." - coach Steve Spagnuolo.

Saints said: "They certainly played with more energy than we did. I just thought we looked flat. We struggled blocking, we struggled running the ball, we struggled protecting, we didn't have a lot going for us. It is disappointing." - coach Sean Payton.

Miami at New York Giants

Key: After a slow and sloppy start for both the Giants' offense and defense, New York quickly cleaned up its act. The run defense, wgashed by running back Reggie Bush for over 100 yards, clamped down, while the pass rush, asleep for most of the first three quarters, came alive and began to rattle Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore. As Giants receivers began holding on to passes, it was easy for Eli Manning to right a ship that looked like it was headed for disaster.

Miami said: "That's a well-coached, (darned) good football team. We went toe-to-toe with them and swung hard. We didn't win, and it's not acceptable. We're still where we were when we started this thing. That group in that locker room - they've got a lot of guts." - coach Tony Sparano

Giants said: "We weren't as sharp as I thought we were going to be. The second half was better, I think, defensively. And offensively we just got enough." - coach Tom Coughlin

Minnesota at Carolina

Key: Cam Newton led the Panthers offense to three straight three-and-out possessions in the second half, the first time that's happened since his last head-to-head start against a rookie quarterback—Week Three against the Jaguars. The weary Panthers' defense couldn't slow down Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.

Panthers said: "In HD it doesn't look too bad, but if a 70-year old gimping down the field says it's a hold, that's what he saw." - receiver Steve Smith on his holding penalty on the two-yard line in the final minute

Vikings said: "One of the defensive guys came up to me and said, 'See, coach, we're not cursed.' Last-second plays have not gone in our favor much this year." - coach Leslie Frazier

Indianapolis at Tennessee

Key: The Titans' Patrick Bailey broke through the middle of a badly-executed protection scheme and blocked Pat McAfee's punt in the end zone with 9:52 left in the first half. Jason McCourty recovered the loose ball for a 10-0 lead, starting a 17-point second quarter for Tennessee that made it 20-0 at halftime. The Colts had 10 penalties and gave up the ball on downs inside the 5 twice in the fourth quarter.

Colts said: "These penalties have killed us." - coach Jim Caldwell

Titans said: "The coaches had a rotation they used. I was in for two series and Javon was in for two series. I didn't know it was part of the plan." - running back Chris Johnson on splitting carries with Javon Ringer

Arizona at Baltimore

Key: The Ravens went to a hurry-up offense at the start of the second half, and it resulted in a much-improved rhythm. The up-tempo play-calling wore down the Arizona defense and allowed the Ravens to put up 21 points in just 13 minutes.

Ravens said: "I'd probably be wanting to boo, if I was in the stands, too." - quarterback Joe Flacco

Cardinals said: "You can't feel like that. That's giving up. I'm not a quitter. I'm not giving up and I don't think anybody in this locker room or anybody with this team is feeling that way." - linebacker Paris Lenon
