Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will be a free agent when the lockout ends, and the Houston Texans are expected to be among his suitors, according to a report by the NFL Network.
Asomugha wasn't available to be given the franchise tag by the Oakland Raiders before the lockout because of a stipulation in his contract (he signed a three-year, $45.3 million deal in 2009 that allowed for the contract to be voided if Asomugha didn't reach certain incentives that weren't likely to be earned). Raiders owner Al Davis said the team would still like to talk about a contract with Asomugha, but he'll be one of the top names on the free-agent market once it opens.
The Texans let Dunta Robinson sign a free-agent deal with Atlanta last offseason, and promptly fielded the league's worst pass defense in 2010, allowing 267.5 passing yards per game. Asomugha was targeted only 33 times last season while giving up just 14 completions and no touchdowns.
Dallas Cowboys safety Gerald Sensabaugh also could be on the Texans' wish list, according to the report. Sensabaugh intercepted five passes last season.
The Texans' 3-4 scheme will be overseen by new coordinator Wade Phillips, who worked with Sensabaugh in Dallas.
