A terrific rookie season has come to an end too soon as the Dallas Cowboys will place DeMarco Murray on injured reserve because the talented running back will require surgery on his fractured right ankle.

Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reports that Murray will be shut down for the remainder of the season, putting the Cowboys in a position where they will need to add a back or two. Murray was injured in the first quarter of Sunday night’s grueling loss at home to the New York Giants, one that knocked the Cowboys out of first place in the NFC East.

Veteran Sammy Morris, who was once a teammate of coach Jason Garrett with the Miami Dolphins, will be brought in for a look Tuesday, per Archer. Right now, Felix Jones is the only healthy back on the roster with Chauncey Washington on the practice squad.

Morris was cut loose by the New England Patriots during preseason. He has a basic knowledge of the offense and is expected to be added. Still, Dallas could need another addition too so stay tuned.
