Laurent Robinson seems to have come from nowhere to capture the hearts of Dallas Cowboys fans. When the season began, Miles Austin and Dez Bryant were the names on the tips of everyone's tongues. However, thanks to a hamstring injury, Austin has moved to the back burner and a free agent replacement has stepped in to take over the lead receiver role.

No one has to be happier with this than Laurent Robinson, whose career went from aspiring superstar to a free agent looking for an opportunity before his 26th birthday.

The Atlanta Falcons drafted Robinson in 2007 and he entered the NFL as a huge sleeper, a 6-1, 193 pound speed receiver with a 4.41, 40-time. He lost out to Roddy White in the competition for a spot in the Falcons' receiving corps, which also included Joe Horn and Michael Jenkins.

After impressing the Falcons in his rookie season with 37 receptions for 437 yards and one touchdown over 15 games from off the bench, he earned a spot on the first team in 2008. Unfortunately, Robinson injured his tailbone and surrounding muscles in preseason and lost the starting job to Michael Jenkins. He injured his knee early in the regular season and remained inactive almost the entire year. He finished the year with five receptions for 52 yards.

Following 2008, the Falcons traded Robinson to the St. Louis Rams, a talented receiver now seen as injury prone. With Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce leaving, the time was right for Robinson to finally earn the starting job that evaded him through his time in Atlanta. Robinson had a big preseason and earned a major role in the Rams' offense heading into the season.

Injury struck again as Robinson, who led the Rams in receiving with 13 receptions for 167 yards and a touchdown over the first two games, suffered a high right ankle sprain and a fractured fibula in Week 3 of the season. The Rams placed him on the IR. With the great play before his injury in 2009, and with new rookie quarterback Sam Bradford at the helm in 2010, it looked like Robinson might be ready to finally break out.

When Donnie Avery went down with a season ending injury in the preseason, Robinson got his starting job. He finished his first full season since his rookie year but was banged up and injured much of the season. He ended up with 34 receptions for 344 yards and two touchdowns over the season.

St. Louis chose not to resign Robinson, and after trying to catch on with the San Diego Chargers, ended up signing with the Dallas Cowboys in September. Since signing with Dallas and playing in place of the injured Austin, Robinson has the most yards and touchdowns of his career, with 441 yards and four scores.

Robinson is finally showing the promise that made him so promising since his rookie year. At 26 years old, the best is yet to come and the Dallas Cowboys might have given Robinson the career revival he was looking for.

Author Shawn S. Lealos has followed the Dallas Cowboys since he was a child, his favorite players range from Roger Staubach and Tony Dorsett to the Triplets of the 90s. Through the great years of the '90s and the hard times of the '80s, Shawn never turned his back on America's Team.
