SAN ANTONIO (AP)—Safety Abram Elam is new to the Dallas Cowboys but is already helping his teammates learn the defense being installed by Rob Ryan.
When the defense lined up for one of its first drills during Friday’s second session, Elam was in the center of the formation. He was pointing things out to his teammates while they got set.
Elam didn’t take part in an earlier walkthrough but was at practice in pads after signing his $2.5 million, one-year deal. He is the only member of the Cowboys who has played in the defense of the new coordinator. Ryan and Elam were together in Cleveland the past two seasons.
Soon after coming on the field, Elam and Ryan chatted in the back of the end zone.
