Dallas Cowboys defensive superstar DeMarcus Ware sacked Rex Grossman in the fourth quarter and moved into first place in the NFL sack leader race. The sack put him at 14 while former leader Jared Allen did not record a sack for the first time in 11 games, stretching back to 2010.

The sack not only put Ware in the lead for the 2011 title but it also put him back on track for the NFL single season record held by Michael Strahan. The record is 22.5 and Ware is on pace for 22.4. Of course, he can't get a .4, but he is clearly on pace to tie the record if he plays the last six game like he played the first ten. He needs 8.5 sacks in six games. It won't be easy but it isn't impossible.

Ware has four multi-sack games this season and picked up four against Philadelphia in Week 8. He also has two games without a sack. Besides, how interesting would it be for Ware to be within striking distance of Strahan's record in Week 17 against the record holder's former team in New York?

Ware has never been a big tackles guy but the way Rob Ryan is moving him all over the field, he is more dangerous than ever. As great as Wade Phillips is doing in Houston, he just didn't seem to know how to deal with someone like Ware. After his breakout 2008 season with 20 tackles, teams began to double team him. Now, with him moving all over the line, he is getting less double teaming and opposing quarterbacks don't know where he is coming from.

He only needs two more sacks to have the second best year of his career. He is on pace for his lowest tackle numbers of his career but that is what Sean Lee is for. With Ware trusting in Lee to cover his back, he can focus on quarterbacks and that is what makes DeMarcus Ware the most dangerous defensive player in the NFL.

Author Shawn S. Lealos has followed the Dallas Cowboys since he was a child, his favorite players range from Roger Staubach and Tony Dorsett to the Triplets of the 90s. Through the great years of the '90s and the hard times of the '80s, Shawn never turned his back on America's Team.
