Bruce Carter says he’s getting closer to being fully recovered from a torn ACL that led the North Carolina linebacker to likely fall out of the first round during the draft.

The Dallas Cowboys remained interested enough to scoop up Carter in the second round with the 40th overall pick, and he’s been diligently rehabilitating the injury that occurred last November during the lockout. It’s been a long road for Carter, who wasn’t able to do any of the pre-draft workouts.

The knee’s doing well,” Carter recently told the Galloway and Co. show on KESN-FM, according to the Dallas Morning News. “I’d probably say to myself that I’m about 85 percent. I will say that I am full speed, I’ve been cutting, it’s just kind of more like a mental thing more than it is physical. Just trying to get my feeling back and I feel pretty good about it. I’m ready to go.

"As soon as I get into Dallas I’m sure they’ll have some things for me to do and we can just work this whole thing out. I’m excited to get down there and show everybody what I can do.”

Carter claims he would be a “game-time decision” if there was a game to play next week. It’s more likely the Cowboys will be cautious with him and bring him along slowly. He projects to be an inside linebacker in Rob Ryan’s scheme.
