DAVIE, Fla. (AP)—A person familiar with the situation says veteran offensive tackle Marc Colombo has agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins.

The person confirmed the agreement to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday because the Dolphins hadn’t publicly announced the signing.

Colombo, a starter for Dallas since 2006, was released Thursday by the Cowboys. He became expendable after they signed top draft pick Tyron Smith.

In Miami, Colombo will provide depth behind starting tackles Jake Long and Vernon Carey. Colombo has ties with Dolphins coach Tony Sparano and general manager Jeff Ireland, who worked for the Cowboys before coming to Miami in 2008.

Colombo was a first-round draft pick by Chicago in 2002.
